Medical Devices

Recalls will occur on medical devices when they are found to be defective or could be a risk to the user’s health. All medical device recalls don not require discontinuing use of the product. Sometimes they will require adjustment or fixing. According to the FDA website there are different types of actions that may be considered for medical device recalls:

  • Inspecting the device for problems
  • Repairing the device
  • Adjusting settings on the device
  • Re-labeling the device
  • Destroying device
  • Notifying patients of a problem
  • Monitoring patients for health issues

You must be an educated patient to ensure medical devices used on you or your family do not have potentially harmful or fatal consequences. Any medical device proven defective or that has been shown to have caused harm may be involved in a liability lawsuit or settlement.
